Ben Miller/degeneration inhabits multiphonic guitar with treatment. Cultivating his technique since 1982,
Miller creates a sonic stereo soundscape that defies standard guitar playing.
"...this warped, questing music is sometimes like a game of blind man's bluff in a rotting warehouse: you feel that Miller has set
things up so that he too doesn't quite know what's going on..."
WIRE Magazine 2008
Primarily as solo performance, Miller also collaborates with
Matt Weston, Roger Miller, Denman Maroney, Motoko Shimitzu and Valmonte Sprout.
The Sensorium Saxophone Orchestra formed in 2008; a 15-member ensemble with 13 saxophones ranging from
bass to soprano and 2 drummers. Miller composes and conducts, currently finishing his first symphony with a NYC premiere being scheduled. Along with other shorter
compositions by Miller, the orchestra is now working on Terry Riley's "In C" for a performance later this year.
The Push-Pull Quartet released their debut CDR At The Stroke of Twelve on Tigerasylum Records in 2008. Miller
composes for this ensemble using tone and interval techniques and graphic scores. He plays alto and C-tenor saxophone with Chris Welcome on guitar, Shayna Dulberger on upright bass, and John McLellan
on drums.
Miller's first novel "On The Brink" is a surrealist-absurdist look at a country bumpkin trying to escape
a murder conviction (amongst other things) by way of time travel. This book will soon be made available here on this website.
In 2000, Miller joined Burningword, an electronic publication, as a contributing writer. He is featured
in the webzine The Tin Lustre Mobile and The Brand New Big Bridge.
From 2006-08, he was one of the on-line music composers for The Mad Hatters Review , a multimedia ezine.
As a guitarist / saxophonist, Miller has explored psychedelic songwriting,
freeform-based improvisation and notated scores in quasi-tonality. Miller was raised in the late 60's,
Ann Arbor, MI having since formed and collaborated with various groups focusing solely on original music.
